We are pleased to host this panel discussion within the Ph.D. Scholarship Programme Uncertainty of the ZEIT STIFTUNG BUCERIUS together with our partners the Imre Kertész Kolleg Jena at Friedrich Schiller University Jena, the Invisible University for Ukraine at the Central European University and the Virtual Ukraine Institute for Advanced Study.

We invite you to reflect on the following questions, among others:

1️⃣ How do junior researchers begin doctoral work when their home countries face political instability, war or economic uncertainty?
2️⃣ Do crises shape research topics and how can researchers maintain intellectual independence amid institutional and funding priorities?
3️⃣ What responsibilities do universities foundations and international programmes have in supporting researchers at risk and what support is most effective?

Joining us for the discussion are the Ph.D. researchers Nadiia Chervinska, Scholar at the Invisible University for Ukraine at the Central European University, Nicolas Sepulveda Perdomo, Fellow within the Cluster of Excellence Imaginamics Practices and Dynamics of Social Imagining at Friedrich Schiller University Jena, Zurab Samarganishvili, Bucerius Scholar at the Ilia State University, Tbilisi, as well as Balázs Trencsényi from the Central European University and Anna Hofmann, Head of Research and Scholarship at ZEIT STIFTUNG BUCERIUS.
