Cities in Times of War: Reconstruction, Mobility, and Belonging

About
Roundtable, an interdisciplinary conversation on how war reshapes urban spaces, everyday practices, civic relations, and forms of belonging — both in cities directly hit by destruction and in the wider context of displacement and reconstruction.
The discussion brings together researchers working on Ukrainian frontline and de-occupied cities, alongside a comparative case from post-conflict Turkey. Together, the speakers approach reconstruction not as a technical problem to be solved once the fighting stops, but as a contested process already underway — shaped by state actors, civil society, professional communities, and residents themselves. The conversation moves across urban governance, return and displacement, labour and everyday life, memory politics, and the question of who gets to plan the post-war city.
The format is deliberately informal: short presentations followed by a moderated discussion and open exchange with the audience.
